Fundraising Coordinator Job Description – April, 2008

 

Montana Conservation Voters (MCV) is the political voice of Montana’s conservation and environmental community, working to elect candidates to office who stand up for clean air and water, renewable energy, public health, and open space protection, and hold elected officials accountable.  Its sister group, MCV Educational Fund (MCVEF) provides research, organizing and public education to activate citizens to work with government officials to protect the environment. MCV and MCV Education Fund’s home office is in Billings, with field offices in Bozeman and Missoula, Montana. The groups seek a full time Fundraising Coordinator based in Billings. The position is open immediately.

 

General Tasks – 5 hours per week

Ø      Provide direct fundraising support to Executive Director and MCV/EF staff.

Ø      Implement the MCV and MCVEF development plans with the Executive Director, MCV and MCVEF Board members, Chapter leaders and staff.

Ø      Participate in staff meetings, trainings, board and membership meetings as needed.

 

Major Donors – 20 hours per week

Ø      Assist Executive Director, leaders and staff to solicit major donor gifts by building relationships with, training and motivating Board members, Chapter leaders and staff to perform agreed-upon fundraising tasks and maintaining ongoing communications throughout the year; develop recognition protocols for leaders’ contributions.

Ø      Assist in implementation of an annual major donor program including:

·       Building and maintaining relationships with major donors by developing personal gift acknowledgment protocols and reporting to donors regularly on how gifts have made a clear difference.

·       Design and prepare necessary fundraising materials to launch and implement an annual major gifts campaign.

·       Conduct prospect research and identify new major donors to achieve fundraising goals.

·       Plan and execute major donor events with MCV and MCVEF Board members and Chapter leaders.

·       Coordinate major donor recognition events.

·       Coordinate computer-based record keeping on all donors and prospective donors.

 

Membership Building – 10 hours per week

Ø      Develop and implement a membership recruitment program using direct mail appeals, email appeals, and personalized mailings and emails from Board members, Chapter leaders, and staff.

Ø      Coordinate and expand MCV’s Conservation Circle monthly and quarterly giving program according to goals in MCV’s development plan.

Ø      Review “daily donors” list (new and renewed members)and donation information.

Ø      Ensure updated thank you notes and membership acknowledgement protocols including receipts and other informational materials to new and renewing members.

Ø      Prepare timely and compelling membership renewal notices, coordinate renewal mailings and emails, ensure accurate renewal lists.

Ø      Assist with MCV’s membership recruitment and renewal calling program as needed.

 

Grantmaking – 5 hours per week

Ø      Work in conjunction with the Executive Director to conduct grant research

Ø      Assist in preparing proposals and foundation reports as necessary.

 

Qualifications:  The qualifications below are necessary for applicants seeking the Fundraising Coordinator position.  However, individuals who don’t have all of these qualifications are still encouraged to apply, as the position may be modified. Compensation would be adjusted accordingly.  

  1. College or university graduate;
  2. Previous experience soliciting major gifts, working with boards, staff and volunteers,
  3. Experience developing and implementing a membership or small donor program;
  4. Experience planning and implementing events;
  5. A commitment to the mission and purpose of Montana Conservation Voters and MCV Education Fund;
  6. Knowledge of Montana’s conservation and environmental community;
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  8. Grant making experience is helpful but not required.
