Director of Development
The Granite State Conservation Voters (GSCV) is the non-partisan
political voice for New Hampshire’s
environment. GSCV is dedicated to helping elect conservation minded
candidates to state office, and encourages lawmakers to champion sound
conservation policies that effectively protect the true New Hampshire advantage – our environment
and quality of life. In pursuit of our
mission, GSCV engages in candidate endorsements, voter identification and
education, lobbying and issue advocacy.
Job Description
Full- time position.
Work includes some evenings and weekends. The Director of Development reports directly
to the Executive Director and works closely with the Board of Directors to
achieve goals. Position is based in Concord,
New Hampshire.
The
Development Director will work to develop and implement the overall fundraising
strategy for the organization. The
position is responsible for leading all fundraising activities, which currently
include: individual donor solicitation, direct mail, special events, donor
database management, grant seeking and reporting, and providing support to
other staff and Board members in their fundraising work.
General Responsibilities
- Provides
direct fundraising support to the Executive Director and Board of
Directors.
- Work
with staff and Board of Directors to develop and implement fundraising
strategies.
- Works
with Executive Director and Board Treasurer to ensure proper financial
management practices are followed.
- Participate
in trainings and Board meetings as needed.
- Evaluate
and track fundraising program results and develop strategies to improve
fundraising performance.
- Help
develop department budget.
Major Donor
- Assist
Executive Director and Board members to solicit major gifts by building
relationships with, training and motivating Board members to perform
agreed-upon fundraising tasks and maintaining ongoing communications
throughout the year.
- Assist
in the overall design and implementation for an annual major donor program
including:
- Building
and maintaining relationships with major donors by developing personal gift
acknowledgement protocols and reporting to donors regularly on how gifts
have made a clear difference.
- Design
and prepare necessary fundraising materials to launch and implement an
annual major gifts campaign
- Conduct
proper research and identify new major donors to achieve fundraising
goals
- Plan
and execute major donor events with GSCV Board members.
- Provide support and
encouragement to board members as they work to achieve Major Donor goals
Donor Development and
Retention
- Develop and implement a
membership recruitment program using direct mail appeals, email appeals,
and personalized mailings and emails from Board members and staff.
- Ensure updated thank you notes
and acknowledgement protocols including receipts and other informational
materials to new and renewing members.
- Prepare timely and compelling
donors renewal notices, coordinate renewal mailings and emails, ensure
accurate renewal lists.
- Coordinate with mail and list
vendors.
- Develop on-line giving program
that is integrated with overall membership and communications plans.
Grant Seeking and Reporting
- Develop annual grant plan which
includes reporting and submittal schedules.
- Prepare grant proposals and
reports, working with the Executive Director and other staff as needed.
- Research and find new funding
sources for issue campaigns or projects.
- Track the status of all
proposals and maintain foundation files.
- Work with the Executive
Director to monitor the attainment of grant goals.
Special Events
- Develop and implement a
sustained House Party fundraising plan
- Oversee planning and
implementation of annual Legislative Breakfast event.
- Develop and implement plans for
other fundraising plans as needed.
Other
- Work with Board and Executive
Director to create a short-term and long-term organizational plan with
concrete goals and timelines
- Provide input to Executive
Director for the development of
revenue plans and monthly cash flows.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Understanding of the New Hampshire
political lay of the land.
- Ability to multi-task and
coordinate several projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work
with board members and other volunteers to raise funds.
- Ability to work both independently
and in a team setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written
communication skills.
- Attention to detail and strong
time-management and organizational skills.
- Desire to work in a dynamic
non-profit setting.
