JOB DESCRIPTION
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Established in 2002, the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters (WLCV) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to electing conservation leaders to the state legislature and encouraging lawmakers to champion conservation policies that effectively protect Wisconsin's public health and natural resources. In pursuit of its mission, WLCV engages in voter education, lobbying and issue advocacy. WLCV also issues candidate endorsements and actively works for the election of candidates committed to strong and effective conservation policies.
I. JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Development is responsible for leading the fundraising efforts of WLCV’s 501c4 and Political Action Committee, including membership building, major donor cultivation and event planning. The Development Director is also responsible for assisting with some of the WLCV Institute’s 501c3 fundraising, and for providing support to other staff and Board members in their fundraising work.
II. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct organization’s development planning and evaluation.
§ Create and oversee organizational development plans.
§ Work with staff and Board of Directors on implementing fundraising strategies.
§ Work with Executive Director to address cash flow needs.
§ Create departmental budget.
§ Evaluate and track fundraising program results, and develop strategies to improve fundraising performance.
Coordinate major donor program.
§ Create annual major donor goals and schedule.
§ Maintain contacts and build organizational relationships with major donors.
§ Research new major donor prospects.
§ Upgrade members to major donors.
§ Initiate contact and set up meets for new and current major donors with Board members and ED.
§ Maintain relationships with current major donors.
§ Work with existing state-wide coalition of organizations to support their fundraising efforts and enhance those of WLCV.
Direct membership program.
§ Develop and oversee implementation of annual membership plan.
§ Maintain and implement system for renewing current members, including mailings, phoning, thank yous and database record keeping.
§ Maintain and implement system for prospecting potential new members.
Develop and implement staff and Board involvement in fundraising efforts.
§ Assist Board members and staff in developing personal fundraising plans.
§ Coordinate and support fundraising events with staff and/or Board members.
§ Coordinate personalized mailings from staff and/or Board members.
§ Attend all Board and staff meetings.
§ Provide other Board and staff fundraising support as needed.
Plan fundraising events.
§ Develop and oversee implementation of plans for fundraising events.
§ Work with Board of Directors on board-related events.
§ Work with Executive Director on event-related marketing and public relations.
Assist with organizational marketing.
§ Coordinate production, mailing and timelines for newsletters.
§ Coordinate productions and mailing of annual and bi-annual reports.
§ Coordinate production of other marketing materials as needed (i.e. brochures, holiday cards, etc.).
Maintain database.
§ Work with Organizing Director to ensure that on-line database is being utilized effectively and that data being entered is as complete and accurate as possible.
§ Act as the main contact to database vendor.
III. JOB QUALIFICATIONS
§ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
§ Demonstrated experience in fundraising, including membership building and major donor development.
§ Strong communication skills including writing and public speaking.
§ Commitment to the goals and vision of the WLCV.
§ Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and direct the project and its programs.
§ Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines and yet be part of a team working toward a common goal.
§ Event planning skills.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
§ Based in Madison. Milwaukee will be considered for the right candidate.
§ Some in-state travel is necessary.
§ Some evening and weekend work required.
§ Fast-paced and requires juggling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
V. SALARY RANGE
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
