Lobby Day Crowd Makes a Big Impression on State Legislators
Thank you to all of our Conservation Lobby Day participants for a wonderful turnout on February 26 th. Your participation made this year’s event a resounding success!
A
record 85+ participants from all over Missouri descended on Jefferson
City to talk with state legislators about environmental issues facing
this year's General Assembly. After we briefed them on the bills,
participants then split into smaller issues teams. The teams then
spread out for a series of lobbying appointments with dozens of
senators and representatives from throughout the state. Among the
environmental issues they discussed with lawmakers: green building;
renewable energy and energy efficiency; factory farms (CAFOs); sand and
gravel mining; e-waste reduction; light pollution; and billboards. ![]()
Lawmakers were clearly impressed with the passion and eloquence of the Conservation Lobby Day participants. Many of them commented that these “citizen lobbyists” were better organized and better educated on the issues than in previous years. Of particular note were the 10 or more college students from various universities throughout the state who took a day off from classes to attend.
Conservation Lobby Day 2008 was sponsored by Missouri Votes Conservation, Missouri Coalition for the Environment and Missouri Sierra Club.
