State Capacity Building Programs & Services
Grants Administration Program
This program provides funds to member state for c-3, c-4 and 527/PAC electoral activities. Approximately $1.2 million is granted to state leagues annually: 50% in c-3 general support grants, 40% in c-4 matching grants and 10% for 527/PAC electoral activities.
Trainings
Boot camps and advanced trainings provide executive directors with the knowledge and tools to effect real change on environmental issues in their states. We hold these training sessions throughout the year in order to provide indivdualized attention to small groups of participants. We are currently expanding the training program and have offered new trainings tailored to list managers, field staff, lobbyists and fundraising staff of state leagues.
List Enhancement
Our division helps state leagues and environmental groups utilize membership lists to their fullest potential. State league and environmental group member lists are pooled and then checked against and enhanced with information from state voter records.
State to State Mentoring
Connecting newer state leagues to the experience and guidance of established leagues enables fledgling organizations to become more effective. We fund and facilitate agreements between leagues in need of assistance and those that can provide it.
Strategic Planning
The State Capacity Building Division provides strategic planning funds for state leagues, enabling them to assess the current political lay-of-the-land and develop effective strategies to win on environmental issues. Each planning process results in a written five-year strategic plan.
Annual Conference
Our annual conference is an important opportunity for executive directors and staff of state leagues to come together and share their experiences. Strategies, ideas and best practices for increasing the power of state leagues are exchanged, improving participants' ability to affect environmental policies at the state and local levels.
